Every August, BAPSH - the British Association for the Purebred Spanish Horse - holds the premium annual show dedicated to the PRE in the UK.
Last year was our first attendance - Bambu showing at BAPSH 2008 is recorded here.
This year has been a great year with Bambu in the open dressage and other Iberian showing classes.
Well, I was delighted when on Saturday night at BAPSH we were awarded the BAPSH Annual Performance Trophy.
This is presented to the PRE horse with the best UK National scores in open competiion for the year.
We also got 2nd place in the annual showing awards.
To follow that we got a brilliant 3rd place in the ridden stallions. I was particularly thrilled with this as it was all ages. He was up against 18 other horses, and lots of them are very nice indeed.
Came the morphology, Bambu did a beautiful run up in trot in the warm up arena in hand, but then suddenly decided he could only canter in the ring, so finished 3rd for movement.
He got pretty good marks for conformation, and the marks were all close between the 2nd and 5th placed horses.
Finally the functionality and Mr B decided he had had a long show and was now a little tired. I have stopped wearing spurs as he is going so nicely off my leg now, and no whips are allowed in the class. He twigged the minute I put the whip down, and decided it was the ideal opportunity to take advantage.
As the functionality is marked on how the horse moves rather than as a dressage test, we ended up dropping a couple of marks as he was rather lacking sparkle. We finished 4th. There were some really good horses in the class, so I was still pleased.
Overall, a brilliant weekend - when he is working among those seasoned competitors I have to keep reminding myself that he is still only 6.
Our first proper elementary, as we did the last 3 in the training section.
We won - with 69.28%.
We also got a 2nd, with 68%. So thats us half qualified for the winter regionals.
The other competitors were reading their scores and commenting on their low marks.
I went in thinking we would be lucky to get 60%, - B wasnt really concentrating as he was excited by naked mares turned out next to the warm up, so I could hardly believe it when I saw the results!
Saturday morning we got 2nd in our first dressage test - despite my forgetting where to halt - with a decent score of 66.45%.
We won our next test on a cracking 71.92%! - we got almost all 8s for our collectives. I was DELIGHTED with that!
Rushed off to do the in-hand class, which was all ages. I have to say I think I was the happiest I have ever been spending the time on the ground with B-he was just simply adorable!
It was wonderful to work with him on the ground as he was so with me and performed at my slightest ask - then stood for cuddles whilst waiting for the others to go. I think I fell in love with him all over again! Anyway, finished a respectable 5th out of about 20 in that.
Then dashed off and tacked up again, and got 2nd place in the ridden horse
Watched the dressage to music in the evening, most of which was rather fun.
Then Sunday morning we won the novice horse (which had the most gorgeous trophy!), and won the tack and dress.
Well I finally decided we should brave the horrid weather, and we went off to our first elementary test today!
He was such a good boy, I was really pleased with him. He was full of energy and went so nicely, even in the wind and rain.
We won the training section as we were the only ones in it! But actually we won the restricted class anyway, and were 3rd overall, even including the open riders.

Bambu took so smoothly to his life as a spanish show horse in the UK, and we had a fantastic first year together.
4th at Windsor, 1st in the parade at the Luso Show, 1st in Tack and Dress there too. Didnt do anything else there, cos I was too dim to do my entries properly!
Then on to BAPSH where we won both Prelim dressage tests, one with me riding the other was Emilio who trained Bambu in Spain.
Won the parade, 3rd in the ridden stallions - only beaten by two advanced horses.
2nd in functionality, and 4th overall in the 5 to 6 year old stallions.
Also qualified for 3 regional pet plans at BD, (but only made it to one!)
